The UK has recently introduced several changes to its student visa policies. If you are applying for a UK student visa, you must be well-informed about these policies. Worry not; I am here to inform you about all the recent changes.
- Dependents: International students can no longer bring family members to the UK. Only those who are in PhD or postgraduate research programs on government-funded scholarships can bring their dependents to the UK. The change was implemented on January 1, 2024.
- Graduate visas: Another change requires students to complete their courses before switching from a student visa to a graduate visa. PhD holders can stay in the UK for up to three years after completing their studies, while other students can stay for up to two years.
- Student Visa Restriction: Another change restricts international students in the UK to complete their studies first and then apply for work. These students can’t use student visas to work in the UK during their course studies.
- English Language Assessments: According to a recent UK student visa policy change, the government reviews English language assessments. The step is to ensure all international students are proficient and fluent in the necessary language skills to help them succeed in their courses.
- Enough Financial Funds Evidence: Those who are applying for a UK student visa are required to provide proof of self-sufficient funds to cover their course fees and support themselves during their stay in the UK.
- English Language Requirement: To apply for a student visa to the UK, you must provide proof of language proficiency. The International GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) can now be used as evidence of meeting the English language requirement to apply for higher studies.
- Working Hours: Students can work full-time during vacation periods. They can also work full-time after they complete their study program and course until their visa expiry.
- Tougher Compliance Standards: A recent change in immigration law requires institutions to recruit international students who meet compliance standards, and those who fail to meet these standards risk losing their sponsor license.
- Restrictions on Remote Studies: Due to changes in UK immigration law, international students are no longer allowed to study remotely. They are required to undertake face-to-face courses by being physically present on campus.
I hope that you will be able to proceed smoothly with your student visa application after becoming aware of these changes.
