Of course, you can apply for a skilled worker visa after your graduation, but your employment start date cannot be earlier than the end of your course.
But there are certain requirements for switching visas that must be fulfilled. Each country has its own rules, but some requirements are essential in almost every country. I can share information about those requirements with you.
Requirements for Switching Visa
- Have finished your degree program; if you are enrolled in a full-time PhD program, your employment start date must be 24 months after you finish your studies.
- Have a job offer from an employer that the Home Office has authorized.
- For the position you have been offered, the employer must possess a sponsorship licence and have given you a certificate of sponsorship.
- The position needs to be listed as an eligible occupation by the government.
- The position must actually be open at the employer.
- Fulfill the minimum salary criteria, which are £38,700 annually. Yet, if you are a newcomer or have a PhD, you can still change to a skilled worker visa with a reduced income.
Steps to Switch the Visa
You must take the following steps in order to change your visa status from student to skilled worker:
1. Before applying, make sure your sponsor has issued you a current Certificate of Sponsorship.
2. To convert to a skilled worker visa, fill out the application on the Home Office website.
3. Pay any necessary application costs.
4. You can use the “Immigration: ID Check” mobile app or schedule and attend a biometric appointment with the closest service center to prove your identification.
5. Upload any supporting documentation needed for your application.
